The Brent de l’Art are a breathtaking wonder, but not the only one on this loop trail. Leave your car at Sant’Antonio Tortal and drive through the beautiful, manicured meadows of Col de Varda, a site that has been inhabited since the Mesolithic period and became a guard outpost in the Middle Ages. Drive along the scenic ridge north of the Ardo stream and be enchanted by the impressive rocks that are millions of years old at the entrance to the Brent. The erosion of the stream’s water has brought to light a variety of rock layers.
After taking the usual but deserved photos, head into the forest, where you will come across the ‘calchere’, ancient lime kilns. Along a stretch of the ancient medieval road that led to the S. Boldo Pass, you will find the remains of the old ‘Biattole’ water mill. The return to the village takes place by passing along some hairpin bends of the ancient “Trichiana-Tovena Straße” road, built in just 100 days by the Austro-Hungarian Corps of Engineers in 1918 in anticipation of the “Battle of the Solstice” on the river Piave during the First World War.
