An easy loop almost exclusively on roads through the Val de Fornas to the hamlet of Paltrac. Park in Carve. The hamlet is well worth a visit with its imposing church and beautiful, recently restored bell tower, where photographic exhibitions are held. Climb up about 1km along the asphalt road to Montagna di Carve. Take a look at the beautiful views of the Zumelle Castle and then descend along the dirt road from where you can catch a glimpse of the first gorges. The area is very famous among canyoning enthusiasts who throw themselves into these spectacular canyons.
At the end of the road from Paltrac, ford the Maor stream and climb up the other side. An old lime kiln – “calchera” – recently restored by the alpine troops, awaits your visit, and you can learn about its history and techniques. Descend the valley on the dirt road to Ponte Valmaor. Along the way there are glimpses of the characteristic narrow gorges worked by water over millennia. Their vertical and very narrow walls allow light to filter in dimly, increasing their wild charm. You return to Carve by ascending the road for approximately 1.5 km.
