A loop excursion incredibly meaningful suitable not only for mountain enthusiasts but above all for all history buffs. In fact, the trail takes us to places of great importance during the Second World War, linked to the Partisan Resistance and the Liberation Struggle, from the feats of arms that took place at Pranolz-Pian della Crosetta in 1944 during the great Nazi-Fascist round-up, to the remains of the ‘casere’ (cabins) used first as a refuge and then as a base and command post for the Partisan Brigades operating in the Belluno and Treviso valleys. Here, British Major Tillman and American Majors Chappel and Benucci established bases for the Allied missions.
Arriving at “Pian dele Femene”, another famous site of the Resistance, we can stop to think at the monument to the Partisan Woman and visit the “Agostino Piol” Museum of the Resistance, which displays weapons and documents from that period. We return to the car that we left in Melere, travelling along the plateau of Canal di Limana and Montegal, which at that time was used as a landing point for weapons, provisions and clothing that were dropped by allied aircraft.
