Park your car in Melere and undertake this ring excursion full of meaning and memory, suitable not only for mountain enthusiasts but above all for history buffs.
This path will lead you to discover very important places during World War II linked to the Partisan Resistance and to Liberation Struggle. It will be like witnessing the facts of arms that took place in Pranolz-Pian della Crosetta in 1944, the great Nazi-Fascist Roundup and the remains of the “casere” used first as a refuge and then as a base and command post for the Partisan Brigades that operated in the Belluno Valley and in the Treviso area.
In these places British Major Tillman and American Majors Chappel and Benucci laid the foundations for allied missions. When you arrive in “Pian dele Femene” ,another famous place of the Resistance, you can reflect in front of the monument dedicated to Donna Partigiana and visit the Resistance Museum “Agostino Piol” which exhibits artifacts and documents from that period. Finally on the way back to Melere you will retrace the plateau of Canal di Limana and Montegal used as a landing point for weapons, food and clothing that were launched by allied aircrafts.
