The Church of Frontin, in the parish of Trichiana, is the only one in the Zumelle deanery to be dedicated to Saint Titian, patron saint of the municipality of Borgo Valbelluna and patron saint of the entire ancient diocese of Ceneda, now Vittorio Veneto.
It was frescoed in the early 17th century, but due to damage, it was necessary to detach the frescoes and preserve them on special panels that are still visible in the church.
Inside, there is an entire cycle dedicated to the life and miracles of Saint Titian. It includes: the episcopal consecration of Saint Titian, which took place in Oderzo; Saint Titian giving alms; the saint inspiring the clergy of Ceneda and teaching them to pray and love; the passing of Saint Titian, where soldiers appear with swords and halberds; and finally, the body of the saint travelling upstream along the Livenza river until it reaches Ceneda, where it was laid to rest.
The Church of Pialdier is located among the houses of the charming village of Pialdier and is dedicated to Saint Barbara and the Holy Cross.
Its artistic value lies in the right side chapel, which was originally the ancient presbytery, frescoed in the mid-16th century by Paris Bordon, a well-known artist from Treviso. Here we see the fresco depicting the Madonna and Child enthroned between Saint Titian, bishop, and Saint Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine, holding the Cross.
Within the sails of the vault, Paris Bordon places among the Doctors of the Church Saint Ambrose, Bishop of Milan, holding a scourge, Saint Augustine, Bishop of Hippo, Saint Gregory with the tiara, and Saint Jerome in cardinal’s robes.
The chapel also features frescoes of Saint Roch and Saint Sebastian, protectors against the plague.
On the opposite wall, you can see the apostle Saint James the Greater and Saint John the Baptist.
The beauty of these frescoes was covered in the mid-18th century when the walls were whitewashed, only to reappear in the last century.
In the 1920s, the church of Santa Croce di Pialdier was dedicated to Saint Barbara, a martyr who was condemned to be beheaded.
