Trichiana was the birthplace of Tina Merlin, journalist, writer, partisan, and a “woman against”, as she was later described.

A provincial councillor for the province of Belluno, she was one of the founding members, in 1965, of the Belluno Historical Institute of the Resistance, now known as ISBREC (Belluno Historical Institute of the Resistance and Contemporary Age). She collaborated with numerous magazines and published several essays, mainly dedicated to the role of women in the Resistance.

Tina, the daughter of poor farmers, was forced to leave school to work as a “little servant” in the homes of the wealthy. It was precisely this apprenticeship in life and the often humiliating treatment she received that forged her rebellious character against social injustice and the subordinate status of women.

At the same time, during her years in Trichiana, living in close contact with nature, she developed a strong sense of belonging to her land, moody, generous and hostile, which gives so much in the abundance of its harvests and takes so much in the floods that swell the Marteniga and inundate Santa Tecla; a land beautiful in its landscape and consoling; a place of community ties, solidarity, essential gestures, a place of profound solitude, and for her, who at eighteen was a partisan courier in the Sinistra Piave, a place of freedom and hope, of emancipation and liberation from her old life.
